Dr. Eliu Huerta is Lead for Translational AI and Computer Science Leader 1 at Argonne National Laboratory, and CASE Senior Scientist at the Department of Computer Science at The University of Chicago. Eliu is a theoretical astrophysicist, mathematician, and computer scientist whose research lies at the interface of physics, AI, and computational science. His interdisciplinary work focuses on applying advanced computational techniques and AI methodologies to tackle grand challenges in astrophysics, cosmology, observational astronomy, and complex systems. Specifically, his research addresses key problems in multi-messenger astrophysics, the modeling of multi-scale and multi-physics systems, and materials science, with particular emphasis on energy storage and conversion.
Eliu has made pioneering contributions to the integration of AI and extreme-scale computing, developing new approaches to scientific visualization and the utilization of large-scale data in scientific discovery. His work also includes the development of open-science supercomputing platforms designed to enable the application of large foundation AI models across diverse scientific domains. He holds a Master of Advanced Study in Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics and a PhD in Theoretical Astrophysics from the University of Cambridge, UK. Eliu is the principal investigator for several interdisciplinary, NSF- and DOE-funded projects that bring together researchers from multiple institutions to advance AI and computational methods in big-data-driven experiments.
