This July, the inaugural cohort of SURF-CAMES (Summer Undergraduate Research Fellowship in Catalysts and Advanced Materials for Environmental Solutions) fellows, along with their principal investigators and members of the Gagliardi Group, enjoyed a scenic and enriching experience aboard the First Lady Chicago Architecture Tour.

The outing served as a summer social and team-building activity, offering participants the opportunity to connect outside the lab while exploring the rich architectural history of downtown Chicago from the water. Under clear skies and alongside breathtaking skyline views, fellows, faculty, and researchers engaged in lively discussions and shared in the excitement of discovery—both scientific and structural.

This event was a highlight of the summer program, fostering community among the researchers and supporting SURF-CAMES’s mission to cultivate a collaborative and inspiring research environment for the next generation of scientists in the field of environmental catalysis and materials science.
